Remember when you were younger and unrealistically wanted everything you could possibly get that sounded like fun? Maybe you wanted a pet, a pool, a playground, or bouncy castle in your backyard, you wanted the newest toys and games, you wanted the coolest clothing out there, all the time there was something you wanted because you thought it looked cool or sounded like fun. As you got older, maybe it switched to wanting the newest phone, pair of shoes, freshest wardrobe, and anything following the latest ever-changing trends. What we want throughout our lives changes as our interests, wants, and desires change. You get into a sport, the things you genreally want can reflect your interests of your sport. If play soccer, you might want the latest model of cleats. If you do track and field or cross country, you might want the latest model for spikes and trainers, the latest model of high-tech massage recovery therapy, or the new trendy workout gear. Outside of sports, maybe you want art supplies or a new book in a series. Whatever it is that you want, it reflects your interests, and vice-versa, your interests can tend to reflect what you want. If you’re constantly spending time meditating on scripture, people might assume that you want to develop your relationship with God. When you’re constantly spending time with God and developing your relationship with Him, you’ll want to serve Him, you’ll want to carry out His purpose for your life because you know that His ways are so much better than your own. When you‘re growing your relationship with God, it will cause you to change and to want to serve Him. When you’re following God, your wants change. You may still have the desire to want to do certain things that are unpleasing to God but God can give you the self-control to not give into those temptations, you just have to let Him work through you. Overall, just like anything else done in life, when you truley live your life through developing you relationship with the Lord, you will see your desires that you follow through on start to change.
